GAJOOB Review by Bryan Baker:
I stumbled upon “Objects of Interest” by Stevenia through a Facebook ad — and let’s be honest, that’s not where I usually discover music that excites me. But this one stood out. The ad felt refreshingly low-key, like a genuine attempt by Stevenia to reach more ears, not some overpolished marketing push. That sense of authenticity carried over beautifully into the music.
The album itself dates back to 2021 and isn’t available on the usual digital outlets like Bandcamp or Stevenia’s website. Instead, you send a little something to cover shipping, and in return you get a physical CD and a few stickers tossed in for good measure. It’s a humble, old-school approach that I love — a little personal connection baked into the exchange.
Musically, “Objects of Interest” is a smooth, thoughtful collection of lo-fi beats with a chill vibe that manages to avoid the trap of repetition. The tracks flow and evolve, expertly sampled and resampled into a cohesive whole that keeps your ears engaged without demanding your full attention. When you want to pay attention it rewards with plenty of earcandy goodness. It’s the kind of album that works equally well as a headphones listen or as a sonic backdrop to your day.
Stevenia’s knack for texture and mood shines throughout. These are beats that feel lived in — not overproduced or polished to death, but cared for, crafted, and layered with intent. It’s a quietly impressive record, and it’s left me wanting to hear more.
Color me a fan.
