Eucademix – Farm Psychedelia (Digital, 2024)
GAJOOB Review by Briyan Frederick, 2024:
Yuka C. Honda’s latest offering under the Eucademix moniker, “Farm Psychedelia,” is a masterful fusion of the organic and the electronic, capturing the essence of pastoral tranquility and avant-garde experimentation. Aptly titled, the album exudes an earthy, grounded feel while seamlessly blending samples with live performances, creating a soundscape that is both familiar and otherworldly.
Listeners are immersed in a world where time seems to bubble and flow like the rhythms of nature, mirroring the ebbs and flows of life on a farm. Speech formants weave through the music, forming stuttering chants that add a layer of raw, human texture to the natural/synthetic sound palette. This intricate interplay between electronic and organic elements gives the album a unique depth, making each listen a new adventure.
The influence of Star Route Farm in Charlotteville, NY, is palpable throughout the album. The dedication to and inspiration from this hub of food sovereignty and social justice infuses the music with a sense of purpose and community and evoke images of fields and skies, translating the farm’s mission into auditory experiences that are both head-bobbingly fun and hypnotically engaging.
Honda’s craftsmanship is beautiful, as she deftly balances thoughtful reflection with playful experimentation. The result is a collection of sonic gems that are at once introspective and joyous, inviting listeners to lose themselves in its rich, multi-layered textures.
Released on June 28, 2024, “Farm Psychedelia” stands as a testament to Yuka C. Honda’s ability to push creative boundaries while staying rooted in deeply personal inspirations. This album is a must-listen for anyone looking to explore the cutting edge of electronic music imbued with an organic soul.
